Fight the Gasoline Gotchas - 440 Views
January 30, 2010

Over the past few years car owners have felt the pinch of rising gasoline prices. Worst yet, is the projection that the price of gas at the pumps will continue to increase through 2010 and into 2011. So what, if anything, can you do to increase the gas efficiency of your car? Without taking the dramatic steps of trading-in your gas guzzling SUV for a Mini Cooper, you can increase the fuel efficiency of the vehicle you own right now by following the ideas below.

No matter where you drive or the type of vehicle you own, the following simple guidelines will go a long way to increase your car’s fuel economy:

  • Check your tire pressure regularly. Just one psi under-inflated can reduce your car’s fuel economy by 3%. Correct tire inflation pressure is critical for good fuel economy, safety, maximum tire life and proper vehicle handling performance.

  • Establish a regular car maintenance program to keep your car tuned up. A well-maintained car can improve gas mileage by an average of 4.1 percent.

  • And finally, commit to driving less often. Carpool to work or school, and consider walking or biking for short trips.

Getting the most economy out of your car just makes sense and the rewards go way beyond the dollars and cents. Driving smart is a choice that we all can and should live with. So, let up on the gas and take a stride towards energy efficient motoring!

Tell us things you have do to increase the fuel efficiency of your car so that we can pass them on and reduce the impact of the gasoline gotchas
