Your car's air filter - why change it? - 258 Views
August 26, 2010

Your car’s air filter simply filters the air that passes through to your vehicle’s
engine. It sounds obvious and not very significant. Your car's air filter however,
is very important for the longevity of your engine’s life since it helps keep your
car’s system clean and free of dirt. If your air filter doesn't work properly and dirt
enters the engine, other problems will begin to surface. Therefore, it is important
that you check your air filter on a regular base and change it when necessary.
Most manufacturers recommend that the air filter be changed annually or
every 24,000 km - if you live in a dusty area. A regular visual inspection takes
only a few minutes and is highly recommended. It is easy to do and your
mechanic can replace your air filer, if necessary, on your next visit to the shop.
There are many different sizes and shapes of air filters on the market
today. Newer cars have different air filters than older ones so check your
owner’s manual to confirm which one is recommended for your vehicle.
Include changing your air filter as part of an ongoing maintenance program. In
doing so, you will increase the efficiency, performance and engine life of your
vehicle.
Do you change your own air filter or do you have your mechanic change it?

Jenn, there is nothing wrong with letting your Mechanic take care of the air filter!

Mmmm - I don't think it's something that I would like to attempt myself. I know that it's good to know to have your air filter changed and why, but I think I will leave the changing to my Mechanic!
